ColegauCymru is proud to mark International Women’s Day today by continuing our commitment to tackling misogyny and promoting respectful relationships in Further Education colleges across Wales. Building on the success of our previous Taith project, we have secured £40k of new Pathway 2 funding to extend this important work.

The previous project culminated in two major regional events, reaching over 400 young men and boys in Wales. Participants engaged in honest, thought-provoking discussions with Matt Brown, founder of She is Not Your Rehab. A short video capturing the impact of these sessions can be viewed here:

This next phase will focus on delivering Be More than a Bystander training across all FE colleges in Wales. ColegauCymru is collaborating with its international partner, The Ending Violence Association of British Columbia (EVA BC), Canada, a leading non-profit organisation with over a decade of experience in evidence-based, trauma-informed prevention programmes for men and boys. EVA BC’s approach equips participants - particularly those on vocational ‘trades’ courses - with practical strategies and real-world scenarios to promote respectful relationships and prevent violence.

ColegauCymru’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Community of Practice will work alongside EVA BC to adapt the Canadian training to the Welsh context, ensuring the scenarios and strategies resonate with local FE learners and environments. We’re grateful that this development work is supported by Medr funding.

ColegauCymru Project Manager, Siân Holleran, said

“International Women’s Day is a moment to reflect on the progress we’ve made in the FE sector in challenging harmful attitudes, but also the work that remains. We are grateful to Taith for recognising the value of the work already achieved - and for funding this next phase - so we can continue to engage young men and boys as allies and equip them with the skills to challenge misogyny. This work responds directly to the findings of the Estyn report, and together we are helping create safer, more respectful college environments across Wales.”
