Lifechanging visit to Sweden for Coleg Sir Gâr’s Equine learners

Our International Project Manager Siân Holleran was delighted to visit to Coleg Sir Gar’s Pibwrlwyd Campus recently to learn of the Equine learners’ fantastic visit to Flyinge Kungsgård, one of Sweden’s three national equestrian centres focused on developing excellence for the horse sector.

The 2-week visit was funded by the Turing Scheme, the UK government's international mobility programme that provides funding for international opportunities in education and training across the world and gave the Coleg Sir Gâr learners opportunities they would not have otherwise experienced.

Learners took part in a broad range of activities from farriery and carriage driving to riding lessons and mucking out. They also spent time in the veterinary clinic.

ColegauCymru International Project Manager Siân Holleran said,

“It’s fantastic to see Coleg Sir Gâr leading the way in overseas mobilities as we emerge from the restrictions of the Covid19 pandemic. The learners’ presentation was inspiring! They were given so many opportunities at Flyinge to learn new skills and to extend their knowledge of horsemanship and equine management. They spoke passionately about the innovative technologies that were used at the centre and the calm environment that ensured the horses are happy and safe.”

Coleg Sir Gâr Programme Manager for Equine and Animal Science Courses Anna Lowndes added,

"The learners gained so much from this visit with experiences they may not otherwise have had. The Equine Department at Pibrlwyd will also gain from the visit as we plan to implement some of the best practice we saw at Flyinge."
