Qualifications Wales: Consultation on the Design Requirements for new Essential Skills Wales qualifications

The response emphasised the need to modernise ESW but raised concerns about assessment clarity, marking turnaround times, and the need for meaningful feedback. It highlighted resource pressures linked to increased assessment volumes, particularly in Digital Literacy, and called for clarity on sample assessments, CPD, Welsh‑medium provision, and implications for apprenticeship frameworks. Despite these challenges, it recognises opportunities such as reduced tutor workload, more relevant content, improved progression, and better learner support, and reaffirms the sector’s commitment to collaboration.
