ColegauCymru Chief Executive, David Hagendyk said,
“Today’s announcement from the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Vikki Howells MS, confirming that Welsh Government is to publish a vocational education and training strategy is most welcome. ColegauCymru has long called for a strategy to link vocational education and training to Wales’ economic and industrial priorities.
The strategy is an opportunity to provide a guiding framework for Qualifications Wales, awarding bodies and providers, and will ensure there is a clear line of democratic accountability within the system. The strategy should articulate Wales’ philosophy for vocational education and training, including the importance of appropriate assessment, moving towards a focus on progression into work, ensure a strong voice for learners and employers, and allow colleges to meet local priorities.
Across all levels, pathways need to support learners and their progression, and the routes should not necessarily be driven by qualifications. We stand ready to work with Welsh Government and partner organisations to build a world class vocational education and training system for Wales”.
