ColegauCymru extends our warmest wishes to Mark Dacey as he announces his retirement as Chief Executive of NPTC Group of Colleges this autumn. After an exceptional career spanning nearly four decades in further education, including almost 23 years leading the College, Mark leaves a remarkable legacy across Wales and beyond.
Mark’s contribution to the FE sector has been both profound and far-reaching. From his early career as an Instructor and Lecturer through to senior leadership roles and national service as an Estyn Inspector for Education and Training, he has consistently championed the transformative power of education.
During his tenure as Chief Executive, Mark has overseen a period of significant growth and innovation. His leadership has guided the College through major milestones, including the successful 2013 merger that created NPTC Group of Colleges, expansion of international partnerships, and the development of pioneering initiatives such as the UK’s leading Floating Offshore Wind (FLOW) Training Academy. Under his stewardship, the College has grown substantially in scale and impact, delivering strong outcomes for learners and communities across a third of Wales.
Mark has also made a valued contribution at a national level, supporting key groups and forums that have helped shape the future of further education in Wales. His commitment to collaboration and shared ambition has strengthened partnerships across the sector.
ColegauCymru Chief Executive, David Hagendyk, said,

Mark is widely respected not only for his achievements, but for his collaborative approach and the relationships he has built across Wales and internationally. He has led national negotiations and collective bargaining on behalf of the sector and he leaves a legacy of genuine social partnership with colleagues in the trade union movement. On behalf of ColegauCymru and our members, I would like to thank him for his dedication and wish him a long, happy and well-deserved retirement.”
As Mark prepares for the next chapter, ColegauCymru joins colleagues across the sector in thanking him for his exceptional service and lasting impact.
