Bridging the Gap: Delivering ALN Services with Limited Resources

Date: 5 June 2025
Location: Angel Hotel, Cardiff

In recent years, colleges across Wales have made significant strides in improving the experience of young people with Additional Learning Needs (ALN). Enhanced transition planning, a stronger focus on person-centred approaches, and increased staff training have all contributed to more effective support than ever before.

However, as we enter the third and final year of ALNET (Wales) Act implementation, ALN teams face mounting challenges. With no additional funding allocated and some colleges managing over 500 Individual Development Plans (IDPs), meeting all statutory duties under the Act is becoming increasingly difficult. The need for collaboration, innovation, and shared best practice has never been greater.

This year’s Conference will focus on practical and sustainable approaches that support colleges to meet both the letter and the spirit of the ALNET Act and Code. Sessions will explore how technology, including artificial intelligence, can enhance ALN processes, alongside examples of effective, learner-centred provision from across the sector.

The morning will feature contributions from a range of colleges, while the afternoon will offer delegates the chance to engage in interactive discussions on policy and practice. We are also delighted to welcome Leanne Howe, a leading expert on the application of AI in FE, as our keynote speaker.

A full programme will be shared closer to the event.
