ColegauCymru is delighted to celebrate the success of NPTC Group of Colleges as they take centre stage in advancing technical education. William Davies, Motor Vehicle Lecturer at Brecon College, has been awarded a prestigious Technical Teaching Fellowship in recognition of his innovative work in 3D modelling and its potential to transform technical education.

The Technical Teaching Fellowship Programme, jointly funded by the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 and the Education and Training Foundation (ETF), supports educators in developing and sharing pioneering projects. This year, three of the seven Fellowships have been awarded to Welsh educators, highlighting the strength of technical teaching in Wales.

Among the 2024/25 recipients is William Davies of NPTC Group of Colleges, whose Fellowship will focus on creating and implementing 3D models and experiences within the vocational sector.

The School of Engineering at NPTC Group of Colleges is at the forefront of developing and delivering contemporary, cutting-edge electrical/hybrid vehicle maintenance training to providers locally, across the UK and internationally. William has been instrumental in the development and provision of these courses.

William’s project also explores how 3D modelling can be integrated into technical education, enhancing learning experiences and skills development. Through the Global Wales initiative, he has visited Germany and India to compare technical training approaches, finding that Wales is at the forefront of innovation in this field.

As part of the Fellowship, William shared his expertise at the Technical Teaching Fellowship Award Celebration on Friday 28 March at the Royal Society, London, showcasing how his work can support technical education across the UK.

William commented,

“Being awarded the Technical Teaching Fellowship is an incredible opportunity to showcase how 3D modelling can revolutionise technical education. Through my visits to Germany and India, I’ve seen firsthand how Wales is leading the way in innovation, and I’m excited to share my findings to help enhance teaching methods across the UK.”

ColegauCymru Chief Executive, David Hagendyk, added

“Welsh educators continue to push the boundaries of technical education, and we are delighted to see William recognised for his outstanding contribution. His work in 3D modelling and electric vehicle training highlights the innovation taking place in further education across Wales, reinforcing our position as a leader in technical teaching.”

ColegauCymru is proud to see Welsh educators leading in technical teaching and looks forward to the impact of this innovative work on learners and colleges across Wales and beyond.
