Following the success of last year’s Further Education Multisport events, ColegauCymru is delighted to announce the return of two exciting duathlon events this May. These inclusive events will bring together learners, colleges, and community partners to celebrate sport, physical activity, and participation for all.

Organised in collaboration with Triathlon Cymru and a wide network of local and national partners, the 2025 FE Multisport events aim to give learners of all abilities the chance to try a new sport, build confidence, and connect with their peers in a supportive and energetic environment.

With over 500 registrations already received from colleges across Wales and England, the events offer two options:

  • Full Duathlon: 5km run / 20km bike / 2.5km run

  • Go Tri Event: 1km run / 4km bike / 1km run - designed as an inclusive option for less active learners and those new to competitive sport.

Rhyl, North Wales - 6 May 2025
The first event will take place on 6 May in Rhyl, hosted in partnership with Grŵp Llandrillo Menai. Supported by The Outdoor Partnership, Actif North Wales, Always Aim High, Welsh Triathlon, Welsh Cycling, Welsh Athletics, Disability Sport Wales and AoC Sport, the event will have around 130 participants with 80% of these learners having a learning disability.

Pembrey, South Wales - 14 May 2025
The second event moves to Pembrey on 14 May, hosted in collaboration with Coleg Sir Gâr and supported by Welsh Triathlon, Welsh Cycling, Welsh Athletics, Disability Sport Wales, AoC Sport, Carmarthenshire County Council, and Castell Howell. Set against the scenic backdrop of Pembrey Country Park, over 400 learners and staff will have the opportunity to participate and compete together at beginners and elite levels.

Celebrating Community and Wellbeing

The Pembrey event coincides with Mental Health Awareness Week (12 - 18 May), which this year focuses on Community. Being part of a supportive, positive community is vital for mental health and wellbeing. These events reflect that theme by encouraging strong social connections supported by being physically active with friends and colleagues.

The multisport events also embody the principles of the ColegauCymru Active Wellbeing Strategy, promoting healthier, more active lifestyles across Wales. With a strong focus on inclusion, wellbeing, and the development of personal and social skills, these events have become a much-anticipated highlight for learners and staff alike.

ColegauCymru Active Wellbeing Project Manager, Rob Baynham, said,

"These events are a brilliant example of how colleges and partners can work together to promote physical activity and wellbeing. They’re inclusive, fun, and make a real difference to the confidence and connection learners feel within their college communities."

ColegauCymru Chief Executive, David Hagendyk, added,

"The importance of physical activity and wellbeing in further education cannot be overstated. These multisport events are a fantastic opportunity to support learners’ mental and physical health, and we’re proud to see such strong collaboration across the sector to make them happen."
